This is similar to my letters from the last 2 years, plus notes from my recent request:

First of all, you are awesome for doing this! I know that I will like whatever you do for me. And if you are not my assigned vidder but are doing a treat for me, I am just absolutely amazed by your kindness.

Second, I like all kinds of music: classical, pop, rock, country, musicals, oldies - if you look at my "40 days of music" meme you may get an idea of that. The main thing for me is that the feel of the music should suit the fandom and/or the story you're telling. By that I mean that yes, it's fine to put a rock or pop song to Sense & Sensibility as long as it feels right for the story or characters. The only type music I don't like is rap.

Third, I'm a slasher and welcome anything with slashy tones. However, I also love team and character vids, and you aren't required to be slashy. I'm just not much into het romance, except where I've noted it. If you want to check out my site to see what I've done in the past, my site is http://video.inkquill.com

So here is my list, notes I put with the original submission, and general thoughts.

A Dog's Breakfast
Music: Any
Details: The vid I got last year was all about Patrick & his paranoia, so I'd like something different this year. As I love the relationship between Patrick and Mars, that might be an area to explore. Or perhaps something around the other characters in Patrick's life.

Eureka
Music: Any
Details: As I said in my sign-up, I would particularly like something about the city of Eureka itself -- it seems to put up with a lot inflicted by its resident genuises. But if that doesn't appeal, then just about anything else would be fine. I love all of the characters on the show, so anything with any one of them would be great. However, I don't ship anyone in the show, so I'd rather have a gen or team vid.

Stargate - 1994
Music: Any
Details: I adore Daniel, and I ship Daniel & Jack, so if you want to do a slash vid for them, that would be marvelous. I also don't mind a bit of Daniel/Sha're, if you want to go in that direction. Basically, stick Daniel in & I will be happy.

Space: 1999
Music: Any, although I've often thought that Billy Joel's song "Just the Way You Are" might make a good Maya vid.
Details: I love Maya & Tony and their growing romance, so anything with them in it would tickle me to death. Het is fine in this case. Alternately, something highlighting the awesomeness of Maya's character would be equally great.

MacGyver
Music: Any
Details: I would like to see MacGyver being clever and amazing. Or alternately, something showing his emotional connections to the people he works with. Would prefer not to have an overt het vid, but I don't really ship him with anyone, so minor canon romance references are okay.

Sense & Sensibility (1995)
Music: Anything that fits in w ith the period and/or the characters
Details: Colonel Brandon is my favorite character. I love his patience, his hopeless love for Marianne, his careful wooing of her afterward. The part where he asks for something to do or he will go mad breaks my heart. When Marianne calls him back and thanks him for bringing her mother, his face just lights up - my favorite bit. Another case where a het vid would be fine.

Quantum Leap
Music: any, but especially something that Scott Bakula sings would make my day. (Possibles are Impossible Dream, or something from one of the musicals he was in.)
Details:Sam-centric, Al-centric or a slash vid about Sam/Al would make me very, very happy.

Inspector Morse
Music: any
Details:I love Morse and adore Robbie, and i do slash them but you don't have to if you don't want to. A vid about them, about their partnership, would be ideal. One that explores the complexities of Morse would also be wonderful.

I swear, I want to whap my eldest upside the head.

For those who don't know, my eldest is the one who gave me a grandson when he was a 5th year senior in high school. He was a 5th year senior, not because he isn't smart enough (129 on the IQ test) but because he didn't turn in the work. He DID the work, just didn't turn it in. He is now in college - a tech school because his grades weren't good enough for state college, plus he wants to be a photographer or graphics designer. Last quarter, he failed 2 of his photography classes because he had a crap camera (from his dad) but he spent part of his college loan money to get a good one for this quarter. This quarter, he did okay in the photo classes but failed English 101 and Psychology. How can you fail Psychology? It's got to be one of the easiest college courses there is. The English I figure is the same as High School - where he also failed English - and he didn't do the work. Now he's going to have to go another year on a 2 year program because of the photography classes last quarter plus these classes this quarter. If I had paid for the classes, I would kill him - and at some point his Financial Aid is going to run out, and then he'll be up a creek.

Add this to Katie failing 2 classes last semester (her Junior year in High school) which I'm going to have to pay for her to take in summer school, and I am about to give up. Yeah, I know high school and college can be tough, but compared to the Real World, they are a piece of cake.

So, I have a potential dilemma on my hands.

As those who've been reading my LJ for awhile know, we've had a bad couple of years where I work, because of state funding cuts & bad economy - like many people out there. As many of you also know, I took a substantial pay cut working here, but it was better than 2 years of unemployment before that. So, things are a little uncertain, jobs could be cut, heck my entire department could be outsourced (which has happened to me in the past). Which is why I went on a job interview at the University Health Center last week: same type of job, almost half-again what I'm making here at the bottom end of the pay scale, similar environment and about a mile from where I am working now. Interview went well, I am one of 4 they are considering, will know more at the end of this week. I was planning on taking it if offered, even though I love my co-workers and what I'm doing, mostly because I simply can't make it on this salary.

And then my co-system-admin announced on Monday that he is leaving, going to one of the other colleges here (not the job I interviewed for), and gave 2 week notice.

So now I've got a potential problem. If I am offered the job and take it, leaving basically the week after my co-worker, there will be no one here who has any knowledge of our data center and network. Anyone they bring in (if they can hire anyone at this salary) will have to start from scratch. Which is doable - it's not like we're working with alien equipment - but it would leave the people that I'm working with in the lurch, which makes me uncomfortable. And I know that if I were my co-admin, I'd be walking away without looking back, not a problem. My brain is telling me "you have to think of yourself & your family, the college wouldn't think twice about letting you go if they have to cut jobs", but my emotions are making me feel guilty about thinking about myself and not the people I've been working with for 6 years.

Of course, I haven't even been offered the job and might not be, but at this point, I have no idea what I will do if they offer it to me.

ADDENDUM: Thanks for the advice, guys! I didn't have to make a choice in the end because I was their 2nd choice (and their 1st choice accepted) but I talked to my boss and I will be moving into the higher-paid job vacated by my co-worker. That's something, at least.

I want to particularly recommend my gift for A Dog's Breakfast. It is funny and amazing and perfect for Patrick, and it features Mars, too! You should definitely watch it if you're a fan of that movie.

So I was in the hospital overnight again. Not the heart this time - had severe back & sternum pain but knew it wasn't the heart, was a bit worried that it had to do with the reflux. And since my dad died 22 years ago from esophageal cancer, it's always a concern. EMTs took me in and they did X-rays (and made sure it wasn't the heart, tho I knew it wasn't) and the upshot was....no body knows. I was released, still with the back pain and maybe I just need my back adjusted. Anyway, my insurance changes to Kaiser in January, so I guess I'll get them started sorting this out. Fortunately, had all my fest stories submitted and all my shopping done, so just have to work on the vid....

I know I'm several days behind on the meme, for those reading it - I have been down with the flu/cold for about 2 weeks now and it's gotten to the coughing-my-lungs-up stage. So - little sleep, little energy, although I did manage to pull myself together to do the Yuletide thing.

Should I worry that so far on the spreadsheet, no one has asked for the seven fandoms I signed up to write? Even in obscure fandoms, I'm obscure (and I miss the tally page so I can keep track on requests/offers)

I am better today but still a little under the weather although mostly working (face-planting your keyboard while at work *is* considered working, right?) I'll try to start back up with blog tomorrow.

Day 30 - A song you'd like played at your funeral

I think this is a lovely song, and it was part of a big Kodak campaign when I was a kid. I would love to have this played with a slide-show of my life and my family at my memorial service (since I plan on being cremated, not buried)

Day 28 - One song that never needs to be played again

This is the second song that my kids know to change when they hear it on the radio. Not because it makes me angry, but because it's one of those songs that I have less than pleasant feeligns for. Don't get me wrong, I love John Mellencamp and his songs. It's just - well, ask anyone who has a song (particularly a sexual one) with their name in it, and I bet you get the same reaction.
